The Start of My Authortube Vlog Journey

As I sit down to document the beginning of my YouTube journey, I’m filled with a mix of excitement, determination, and a hint of apprehension. This decision didn’t come lightly; it’s been brewing within me for quite some time.

Reflecting on the Past Year

For the past seven years, I’ve navigated the turbulent waters of owning a hybrid publishing company, Winn Publications, a venture that’s been both rewarding and challenging. Despite my degree in mass communication and my expertise in book formatting, publishing, and sales, last year marked a significant financial downturn for me. It was a year of learning, failing, and ultimately, finding balance.

Embracing Resilience and Growth

Amidst the struggles, I discovered the power of resilience and the importance of celebrating small victories. Every mistake became a lesson, which others say is a testament to my dedication to the world of book publishing. And while 2023 may have been a down year financially, it was also a year of immense growth and self-discovery.

The Decision to Launch My Authortube Vlog

Then, at the beginning of May, I made a pivotal decision: to go all in with my YouTube channel. As an author and publisher, I felt a pull towards this platform unlike any other. Perhaps it was intuition or a gut feeling, but I knew it was the right move for me.

Inspiration from Think Media

My journey into YouTube was further solidified when I stumbled upon a report by The Tilt that Think Media did a video on, outlining the realities of becoming a full-time content creator. According to their data, it takes approximately 18 months to reach a point where hiring help becomes feasible. They also highlighted the initial investment required and the time it takes for YouTube to become a significant lead generator.

Setting My Goals

Inspired by this report and armed with my own determination, I decided to put their findings to the test. I left a comment under the video, proclaiming my intention to document my journey over the next 18 months. It was a challenge I eagerly accepted.

This screenshot was taken on May 25, around 11:55 AM. For future reference, I am not sure if the video is still, but this is what I said earlier this week.

Crafting My Strategy for the Authortube Vlog

My approach is simple yet methodical. I’ll be using the report as a loose outline, sharing milestones as I reach them and providing insights into my progress. My initial goal is to post shorts daily and long-form videos three times a week. It’s a commitment to consistency and quality, aimed at building an audience and finding my tribe.

Monthly Progress and Adjustments

But this journey isn’t just about numbers and metrics; it’s about growth and learning. I’ll be measuring my progress month by month, utilizing frameworks like the 12-week year to make adjustments and refinements along the way. And while the road ahead may be uncertain, I’m ready to embrace the challenge wholeheartedly.

Join Me on This Adventure

So, if you’re curious to join me on this adventure, I invite you to follow along. I’ll be sharing links to the report, the Think Media video that sparked this journey, and of course, my own YouTube channel. Together, let’s see where the next 18 months take us.
