Transforming Your Writing and Publishing Journey: How the 3 Levels of Change Can Help You Succeed

Change can be difficult, but it’s also necessary if we want to grow and achieve our goals. It’s no different when it comes to writing and publishing. Change can be especially challenging, as we often have to overcome mental and creative barriers to reach our full potential. That’s where the 3 levels of change come in – a framework for personal growth that can help you transform your writing and publishing journey.

Table of Contents

Level 1: Identity Change

At the core of the 3 levels of change is identity change, which involves transforming our core beliefs and mindset to become the person we want to be. For me, this involved addressing deep-seated beliefs that were holding me back, such as the idea that I wasn’t being supported in my pursuit of growing a book publishing company and building an online bookstore.

By challenging and shifting these beliefs, I was able to wake up and see that not only was I being supported a lot of times I was collaborating with people and just wasn’t present enough recognize it. Waking up to that truth made having a more positive and productive mindset easier. To know that there actually are people that have your back and believe in you is a good feeling. Business owners work hard to gain visibility, so having supporters lets us know that we are being seen and that gives us hope.

@misswinn_ What do you think? Of course I couldn’t fit everything in a 3 minute video, but does this make sense? In my blog I go into more details about how I apply this to my life and my pursuit of growing my book publishing company. #change #mindset #levelsofchange #changeyourmind #bookpublishing ♬ original sound - misswinn_

Level 2: System Change

Once I had addressed my beliefs and mindset, the next step was to change my systems and habits to support my new mindset. This involved creating a consistent business operation routine, setting realistic goals, and establishing accountability measures to keep myself on track. By focusing on my systems, I was able to begin creating a sustainable writing and publishing practice and overcome the resistance and procrastination that had held me back in the past.

Level 3: Results, Outcomes, and Goals

Finally, I set meaningful goals that aligned with my desired identity and systems. This involved setting realistic, achievable goals that pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but that also felt attainable with the right systems and mindset in place. By setting and achieving these goals, I was able to build momentum and confidence in my publishing journey as a CEO.

Applying the 3 Levels of Change to Publishing and Writing

Once I had addressed some of my blocks around who I am, whose in my corner, and what I am capable of doing, the next step was to change my systems and habits to support my new mindset. This involved creating a consistent routine, setting realistic goals, and establishing accountability measures to keep myself on track. By focusing on my systems, I was able to begin creating a sustainable business and overcome the resistance and procrastination that had held me back in the past.

How the 3 levels of change apply specifically to publishing and writing

At the system level, writers and publishers can look at our writing and publishing processes. Are we consistently producing quality content? Are we utilizing effective marketing and promotional strategies? By being honest about what we are doing with these systems and making adjustments as needed, we can ensure that our work is being received by the right audience and is achieving the desired results.

At the results level, we can set meaningful goals that align with their desired identity and systems. For example, a writer might set a goal to publish a certain number of books in a year, while a publisher might set a goal to expand their catalog and increase sales. By setting and achieving these goals, writers and publishers can build momentum and confidence in their writing and publishing journey. If you’ve been keeping up with me, this is exactly where I am at. My goal for Winn Publications is to publish more authors. As of right now, I am looking to publish 27 more authors in 2023.

My personal experience with applying the 3 levels to publishing and writing In my own writing and publishing journey, I have found the 3 levels of change to be an essential tool for success. By addressing my limiting beliefs around success and adopting a growth mindset, I was able to develop the confidence and resilience necessary to pursue my writing and publishing goals. By looking at and adjusting my writing and publishing processes, I was able to consistently produce quality content and market it effectively. And by setting and achieving meaningful goals, I was able to build momentum and achieve greater success than I had ever thought possible.
